As expected high quality football was witnessed in the Roots Sports Corporate Futsal Hyderabad. The tournament was held on 20th and 21st of February 2010 at the Gymkhana grounds, Secunderabad. The session opener saw the best of corporate futsal teams vying for the coveted tag…’Champions of Hyderabad’.

The tournament was played in a group league cum knockout format. There were three cups – Platinum, Gold and Silver Cups; result of group league qualifies the group topper to play for the top Cup i.e. Platinum and likewise the second goes for Gold Cup and the third plays the Silver Cup.

Pressure was built early on with tough groups and teams studying well their opponent’s strategy. Krebs came top in group A, while Microsoft sneak through GE Money to the second position by virtue of goal difference.

Group B saw erstwhile champion Google topping the group to qualify for the platinum cup, followed by HSBC GLT and Bank of America.

Accenture a relatively new team proved they were the most improved teams making it to Platinum Cup from Group C defeating former champion TCS and Cognizant.

Group D, supposedly the group of death saw couple of high intensity matches. Runner Up of last edition, Genpact emerged group topper, while Deloitte defeated HSBC to claim a position to fight for the Gold Cup.

The stage was set for the finals on the second day.

In the first semifinals of Platinum cup Genpact defeated Accenture 5-1, while in the keenly fought second semifinal Krebs edged Google to a 4-1 win, though the results would say a different story. And just as anyone would want a dream final to be, it was the defending Champion Krebs Bio against the contender Genpact. The match was draw at 2-2 during the regulation time. The match was still locked at 2-2 after the end 1st half of extra-time. However, Krebs came up with a brace of three gaols within a span of 4 mins in the second half of extra time to seal Genpact’s fate.

In the Gold Cup final Deloitte defeated Microsoft 3-2 in a high spirited match. Earlier Deloitte overcame TCS 7-4 in the first semifinal, while Microsoft won 3-2 against HSBC GLT.

Silver Cup Final between HSBC and GE Money too was a thriller, which went on to extra-time. HSBC showed their superiority by defeating GE Money 6-3. In the Silver Cup semifinals HSBC defeated Cognizant and GE Money defeated BOA.

DE Shaw was awarded the Fair-play Team as an acknowledgement of their sportsmen spirit.

Sreejith (Deloitte) was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his all round performance, his deft moves in the midfield created many chances for his team. He also ended with a tally of 7 goals.

Christopher (HSBC) had to be the Best Striker for his 10 goals in 4 matches, true to his predatory instinct he turned out to be a menace to the opposition defense.

Ashfaq (Krebs) received the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ award for his outstanding saves, ensuring his team to be among the least goals conceded teams of the tournament.

In a new category introduced for the first time in Corporate Futsal, the title of ‘Best Defender’ went to Rahul Gomes of Genpact for his rock solid defense, usually the last man standing who also has the knack to raid opposition defense and score goals for his team.
